THE SECRETS ABOUT DISTROKID’S PLATFORM EVERY MUSIC ARTIST SHOULD KNOW.

Hey there, welcome. In this blog, I am going to take you through some of secrets about DistroKid platform. If you are planning to choose it as your music distributors, then you should definitely know these secrets.

DistroKid has a very user-friendly platform. The platform is perfectly designed to ensure that you upload your music faster and without any major challenge.

Immediately you log in to the platform, questions will pop up midway when you are in the process of uploading your music. These questions help you in guiding so that you do not mess or take a wrong step when uploading your music.

The uploading process will be super quick and fast especially if you have access to a strong network, you can even take 15 minutes only to finish the whole process. The problem comes when you have a poor network, especially since DistroKid has no option that allows you to save your details midway. Therefore, where there are network problems, you might find it challenging since you will be forced to start the process all over again every time your network goes off. You can even end up taking 2 or 3 hours. Therefore, always make sure you have access to a strong network before you start the uploading process.

After you have uploaded your music to DistroKid’s platform, it usually takes a maximum of one week before your music is aired in the various digital stores. There are some digital music platforms such as iTunes and Apple Music that even take one day. The danger with this fast distribution of music by DistroKid is mainly when an artist needs his/her music to take more time before the various music platforms release the music to the public.

Now, this is not a problem when you sign up with the musician plus tier or the label tier because in such cases you can specify the dates your music will be released on-air by the various music platforms. If you however sign in with the musician tier, you will not be able to have a customized release date. This is one of the reasons why you will see most music artists sign up to the musician plus tier or the label tier.

Having said that, the next question then is, how many music stores do DistroKid distribute music too?

Well, there is quite a long list of the music stores in the DistroKid database, starting from major platforms such as Spotify, Tidal, and YouTube to very many minor platforms. DistroKid distributes music to more than 150 music digital stores.

There is also a report and analytics page on DistroKid’s platform. What is funny about DistroKid’s stats feature is that it makes no difference. Because ideally, music artists in this era have access to the analytical tools provided by Apple Music and Spotify. And this access is for free. That is the same thing the stats page shows it just gives highlights about your music streams. This includes, when it was streamed, the name of the artist associated with the music, and the platforms. It only accommodates four platforms namely; Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and Amazon.

There is no other unique feature that this reports and analytic page shows, it’s as if DistroKid factored in this page just to pass time. Because if you look at other distributors such as TuneCore, you will realize that they have some unique features in their reports and analytics pages. Therefore, if your main focus is on the reports and analytics page, then DistroKid is most probably not the kind of distribution company you would love to work with.

You should also need to note that DistroKid does not have active customer care service. They have written numerous blogs and articles about how to use the platform.

They have tried to factor in the solutions to almost every problem or challenge you might face on the platform. So instead of having the customer care talk to you directly, you will be led to a specific article and you will have to read through it to find the solution to the challenge you are facing. In most cases, these articles are usually very helpful. The problem only comes where the articles do not provide the solution you require. In such a case, it may be very frustrating because it may take a lot of time before you reach out to human customer care, given that DistroKid’s staff comprises not more than ten people.

After all, said and done, what remains is that DistroKid is one of the best music distribution companies even given some of its disadvantages. It is cheap, quick, and easy to work with. There are additional services that DistroKid offers.

In the next blog, we will look at these additional services in detail. Therefore, make sure you do not miss out. Meanwhile feel free to type in any comments, questions, or suggestions in the comments section below and I will read and respond to them. Thank you.
